PIGEON
Pigeon is about observation and liberation through limited options. It is a study in simplicity and staying focused in a moment. During a summer in New York City, I discovered delight at my neighborhood park, watching a group of pigeons from under a shade tree. I was enthralled by the beautiful patterns in their feathers. It became an enchanting game to seek unique aspects to each pigeon, taking photographs to capture these swirls, shapes and colors. To honor the dignity of this animal, I chose to reduce my choices to a limited set of materials and practices. Thus, small collages through paper, glue, scissors and these moments of deep engagement.
I hope these little vignettes of pigeon-hood bring you the joy they brought me. A highly intelligent and social animal, the pigeon is able to recognize each letter of our alphabet as well as their own reflection in a mirror or pond, and has shared space with humans since at least 3000 BCE.
